ATOHM GT1-HD - REVIEW
Let me state right off that I do not write negative reviews. Lukewarm yes, but not negative. When I first pulled the subject of this write up, ATOHM’s GT1-HD, out of it’s fabric cover in turn well protected by foam inserts and triple layer cardboard packaging and set them playing, I was a bit surprised. Here was a gorgeous stand–mounted speaker whose sound was both sharp and grating. I had some audio geek buddies over and one of them said, “Please get rid of those.” Not a ringing endorsement. After a few weeks of playback, the GT1-HD lost their aggressive stance, settling down into a slightly retro ’70s vibe. But, I’m getting ahead of myself…
PURE AUDIO PROJECT DUET 15 - REVIEW
So now you can see that the Duet15 is a two–way design. The aforementioned whizzer cone should narrowcast high frequencies, but does it? Is the Duet15 as dark as I’ve come to expect from a full range transducer? Well, yes and no.
BOENICKE AUDIO W8 - REVIEW
If I had a magic lantern housing a benevolent and easily amused djinn and asked her for the boon of a high performance loudspeaker in a handsome family-friendly package…Abracadabra, a pair of W8s would miraculously appear! Not only would my wish be granted, but I’d have to give props to my genie for her astute good taste.
VIVID AUDIO KAYA 45 - REVIEW
The Vivid Audio Kaya 45s came in with little expectation from me. They sat patiently while the other in-house speakers were put through their paces. And when their turn came, well, they astonished and continue to astonish. Additionally, the Kaya raised the bar of performance and award citation for not only speakers but all other equipment as well. No small task. And this speaks to the profound abilities of the Vivid Audio Kaya 45.
TRI-ART OPEN 5 - REVIEW
The TRI-ART OPEN 5 at $7500 is a game changer in that it will challenge, easily, speakers at multiples upon multiples of its price. All one need do to achieve this, is to feed it sufficient, well enabled power to bring it to life (100 watts+)!
SCANSONIC MB2.5 B - REVIEW
Looking for a high performing loudspeaker with a sophisticated air and a small envelope? The Danes have a way with transducers, and the folk at Scansonic HD may have just what you’ve been searching for.
SCANSONIC MB1 B & MB10 SUB - REVIEW
The Scansonic MB1 B standmounts are the best monitors we have heard to date under $3000, by quite a large margin. In fact, when my Spendors eventually have seen better days, the MB1 B will take their place. They are refined, addicting to listen to, and are lookers to boot.
