INTERVIEW: BRENDA ALEXSANDRA, artist
I was introduced to Brenda Alexsandra via John McDonald of Audience and, thereafter, I became very familiar with her truly amazing art in which she paints luminaries from the world of music and entertainment. Suffice to say, her paintings as listed within this interview are truly wonderful to behold. And Brenda’s art goes well beyond entertainment luminaries to a range of subject areas.
I reached out to Brenda in Bali, Indonesia by phone to speak with her regarding her artistic insights, the why of her paintings, certainly her entertainment paintings, and her beginnings as an artist.
Please find the interview below, along with a number of Brenda’s paintings throughout and a way to contact Brenda, should you be interested in her paintings or in having her create a painting for you.
THE INTERVIEW
(KE. Heartsong, KH): Brenda, thank you agreeing to this interview and I thank you for your time. Let’s start with you early life and how it was to grow up in Bali.
(Brenda Alexsandra, BA): You are very welcome. And thank you for your time.
I grew up in a close-knit family with my parents and my brother. My dad, an artist at heart, pursued painting as a cherished hobby. Some of my fondest memories are of us drawing together in serene natural places—whether it was the gentle waves at the beach, the quiet majesty of the mountains, or the calm of the forest. Those moments in nature, filled with creativity and tranquility, deeply shaped my childhood.
(KH): Brenda, what was most important to you?
(BA):What mattered most to me then was creating something I truly loved. For me, art is the ultimate expression and the answer to that desire.
(KH): What is your most enjoyable memory regarding your early life?
(BA): I really enjoyed doing art with my brother and dad when I was young. When my dad passed away, I continued doing are with my brother. It’s something that always brings back good memories.
(KH): When did art come into your life?
(BA): I’ve loved drawing since I was a kid. Whenever people ask me, I always say it’s a talent, a natural talent I was born with.
(KH): What are some of the things that you've done that led you to art as a career? And how did you develop such a wonderful talent?
(BA): Since childhood, I have been deeply drawn to visual expression—whether through drawing, painting, or crafting. I devoted countless hours experimenting with various mediums and styles, which allowed me to uncover and develop my unique artistic voice. Although I did not follow a formal art education path, I actively sought out essential techniques and absorbed diverse artistic perspectives through self-study and observation. Committing to daily practice and welcoming constructive feedback from mentors and peers pushed me to continually refine and elevate my skills. My talent grew not only through persistent effort but also by embracing challenges and exploring innovative, creative ideas. This journey has transformed art into both my career and a lifelong passion that fuels my constant growth and creative evolution.
(KH): What types of art and other projects have you done? And why musicians?
(BA): My primary artistic focus is Naturalism, where I strive to capture the beauty and authenticity of the natural world with detailed, lifelike representations. In addition to this, I have worked extensively in graphic design, creating logos, book covers, movie posters, flyers, and other visual materials. These projects have allowed me to blend creativity with communication, crafting compelling visuals, that engage and inform audiences.
As for why I focus on musicians, my passion for music plays a central role. Music has a profound emotional impact, and through my art, I aim to honor musicians, who have passed away, preserving their legacy and spirit. By immortalizing them visually, I help ensure they continue to live on in the hearts and memories of others. This fusion of art and music reflects my commitment to celebrating cultural icons and the timeless power of their work.
(KH): What do you look forward to doing with your life? What's Next?
(BA): I am passionate about continuing to create impactful art that resonates with people around the world. My goal is to share my work on a global scale, connecting with diverse audiences much like music does—universally appreciated and deeply felt. Moving forward, I am committed to expanding my creative output, producing more meaningful and powerful pieces that inspire and engage. The next chapter of my journey is focused on growth, productivity, and making a lasting artistic contribution that reaches far beyond boundaries.
(KH): What makes you happy?
(BA): Happiness and fulfillment for me come from witnessing the joy and satisfaction my art brings to others. When my audience and customers connect deeply with my work, their smiles and appreciation become the greatest reward. Knowing that my art holds meaningful value in their lives is the ultimate source of inspiration and purpose.
(KH): Is there anything that I’ve not covered, that you would like to share?
(BA): I appreciate the opportunity to share my story. One thing I’d like to add is my commitment to continuous growth and learning within my craft. I am always seeking new techniques and perspectives to evolve my artistic expression. Additionally, I value collaboration and building meaningful connections with those who appreciate and support the arts. These elements drive my passion and dedication beyond what we’ve discussed.
(KH): Brenda, thanks again for your time and for this interview, greatly appreciated.
